About the Foundation

The Lafourche Education Foundation (LEF) was founded in 1997 by local residents and business leaders who recognize that the strength of the community depends on the enrichment of public education. LEF's mission is to raise and invest funds for charitable purposes that support, improve and advance public education in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

In order to fulfill this mission, the 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization is committed to the achieving the following goals:

  • Support teachers in their work and professional growth
  • Encourage best practices in education
  • Support innovative action that leads to academic excellence for students
  • Support and stimulate the learning process for the children of Lafourche Parish
  • Link community resources with school needs and school resources with community needs

LEF awards Paul Ruth Teacher grants of up to $1,000 and School Wide Grants of up to $5,000 annually to educators and schools who implement innovative and creative projects that improve student academic achievement. The foundation also presents "Teacher of the Year" awards to parish educators at an annual banquet. Its primary fundraiser is an annual Gala held each year in April with notable guest speakers.
